If you have a water well on your property, one of the most important parts to keep an eye on is the water pump. After all, this is responsible for bringing water from the well into your home. To ensure its continued operation, you need to take these steps.
Check for Drips
In a perfect scenario, your water pump will bring water from the well to your home without drips occurring at all. After time passes and natural wear and tear, though, this often doesn't occur. Then, you may be left wasting gallons of water without even knowing it.
That is why it's so important to check your water pump for drips on a regular basis. If you notice drips, the problem could be as easy as tightening parts or as complex as having damaged parts replaced. Take your time troubleshooting the leak so you can come up with an appropriate pump repair response, before you waste too much water.
Clean the Cooling Fans
An integral part of your water pump is the cooling fan, as it's intended to keep the unit from overheating. Unfortunately, dirt, debris, and other substances can cover it and prevent it from working at an optimal rate.
Every month or so, inspect the cooling fan to see if it's dirty. If it is, be sure to clean the fan with a soft-bristled brush. You can also use a portable air compressor, a device designed to shoot out pressurized air in any direction that the nozzle is pointed. This machine is ideal for dirt and debris that are not coming off so easily.
Monitor Weird Noises
A tell-tale sign that your water well pump is not operating correctly is if it makes an odd sound. Your pump, for example, may be making a lot of rattling noises. This could indicate a number of problems, such as a suction lift that's too high or a collapsed lining.
Since identifying the culprit is a difficult task, it's best to contact a pump repair professional when you start hearing these strange noises. They'll inspect your unit and identify the problem almost immediately. A full report is provided concerning the repair costs, as well as a list of what needs to be done to get your unit up and running.
Although water well pumps are innovative machines and come with a lot of modern features, they don't always work perfectly. However, you can keep your unit working great for as long as possible by sticking to a regimented maintenance schedule throughout the year.Share
