3 Things To Ask A Roofer After They Check Your Roof

Posted on: 30 April 2021

If you are worried about your roof, then you should have a roofer come out to your house and check it out. When you hire a contractor to check out your roof, there are some questions that you should ask them after they have checked everything out. You want to wait until they are finished looking at everything because that will give the roofers a chance to evaluate what they have seen and to form some opinions on your roof. So, what are some of the things that you should ask the roofers?

Repair or Replace

One question you should ask is if you should replace your roof or if it can be repaired. There are several variables that will go into what the final decision is. That can include the age of your roof, what your roof is made of, how large the damage is, and how many places you have damage. For example, if you have an asphalt shingle roof that is only a few years old, the damage is in only one place, and it is relatively small, the roofer may suggest that you just get the area repaired. But, if your roof is fairly old, they may suggest that you replace the roof instead.

Lifespan

Another question you might want to ask is if the roofer can give you an estimate on how much more life your roof has. All roofing materials, from asphalt shingles to slate tiles, have a lifespan. It isn't possible for the roofer to give you an exact answer to that. They can't tell you that your roof is going to last another 4 years exactly, but what they can tell you is that they think that you might get another few years out of your roof until you should really replace it. That will let you start to make some plans as to what you are going to do, or let you start saving to replace your roof.

What They Would Do

You can also ask the roofer what they would do if it were their roof that they were looking at. The roofer may not want to give you their opinion, and that's fine, but if they do, that's another piece of information that you can work with.

If you are worried about your roof, you should get it looked at immediately. Have a roofer come out to your house, look at your roof, and make an evaluation. Then you need to ask them some questions before you make your final decision.
